Cold Revenge, Chapter 1

Chapter 1The Decision
The room was rather ordinary, a room you could find absolutely anywhere. A chair was in one corner with a small work table in front of it. There was a window above the table by three feet. On one wall there was a bookshelf filled with assorted books. The walls were yellow, Joe’s favorite color. On the other wall opposite the bookshelf wall, there were posters of various ninja warriors. The very top and largest poster was of the Black Ninja. A hero from the past. A man who had fought against untold evils for longer than anyone knew. All anyone did know was that he fought evil, and then one day disappeared and was never heard of again. The poster beside that one, was a drawn picture of a man with bulging muscles. Short black hair on his head, fierce black eyes. This one was aptly named, muscle man. A man who before the Black ninja had also defended the planet against the threats of evil. The thing that marked this room as very strange was that there was a capsule in the very middle of the room, silver colored, made of metal. The sliding door opened slowly, and stopped with a small thudding noise. Joe sat up and stared at the wall with the posters. He gazed at them for a few seconds then yawning he slowly stood up. He wore a simple pair of black shorts, his skin was extremely pale. His eyes were a very light blue. Joe moved slowly towards the dresser then stopped as he looked out the window. He stared out the window looking towards the star far up in the sky. Blinking and yawning again he moved to the dresser. He pulled out the outfit he was going to wear for the day. Stripping off his boxers he stepped into the outfit. The one thing he loved about the clothes on this planet was all you had to do to put them on was push a small button on the waistline of the outfit. Doing so he grinned as a yellow bodysuit literally slid up his entire body. He looked at the mirror beside the dresser. “Girl clothes they say.” He shrugged a bit then walked over to his steel contraption in the middle of the room. The steel object was actually titled the Steel Slider. Its purpose was so that it was dark when people went to sleep. The planet Recede’s so large two stars actually rotated and revolved around it. They were called Narkiss 1 and 2. Pushing a button the sliding part of the Steel Slider he closed it. Nodding as if to say that he was happy with what he’d done he moved over to the mirror again. Reaching into the pocket on the right side he pulled out a yellow comb. Combing his pale blonde hair down straight he walked out of his room while pocketing his comb. Walking into the hallway he looked at the walls of the hallway. Stepping out of his room immediately to his right was a bathroom. Stepping inside he walked to the sink. Beside the sink was a toilet. Behind him was a shower. He brushed his teeth quickly, rinsed out his mouth and walked out of the bathroom. He walked a few steps until he came to his fathers room, turned left and carried on. He made his way to the start of the stairs walked down 4 steps, turned left again and made his way down the rest of the stairs. The stairs entered into the living room. Turning right he made his way through a small little way to the kitchen where breakfast was waiting for him. Sitting at the round table he began eating. His father walked out from the bathroom and entered the kitchen. Washing his hands he looked to Joe. “She’s coming to see you today son.” Joe frowned into his bowl and chewed slowly. “I know that dad.” Phillip walked into the dining room and sat on a chair pulling up a book. Looking at the cover he spoke again. “I’ll never forget what she said to me the first time I met her. “ Joes head snapped up. “Wait. People are only supposed to meet her once.” It was at that Phillip set the book down and stared Joe in the eye. “The second time I met her, was actually.” He paused unsure of the right words. “It was a long time ago son. Many people do meet her a second time, if they are lucky enough. Don’t know if she was right though.” “What did she say dad?” “That the savior of our planet has arrived. That the war will end and that the hero will fight the evil.” Joe raised his left eyebrow. “Zat so?” Phillip nodded. “Yes. Now eat up. Nicolas will be here to walk to school with you.”Right after Phillip said that there was a knock on the door. Joe pushed his chair back walking through the small hallway, looking at the wall that separated the kitchen from the dining room. Joe opened the door grinning widely. “Nils.” Nicolas stood frowning holding hands with his younger sister. He wore a orange body outfit with the puffy sleeves and pants. It had different green designs all over it, dubbing the outfit the coolest ever. His sister was wearing a pink outfit with the same puffy areas. Joe chuckled at the sight of them both. “What is it with you two and puffy?” Nicolas gave him a sarcastic look. “Very funny Joey.” Joe narrowed his eyes. “Don’t call me Joey.” Nicolas stuck his tongue out at him. “Ya. Well. I’ll call ya Joey if I want to. So there.” Marion giggled and spoke up. “Joey, you look really thweet today.” Marion spoke with a very noticeable lisp. “I look sweet do I?” Marion nodded and giggled, blushing a bit. Joe looked at Nils and rolled his eyes. Nicolas looked back at him. “Your backy?” Joe blinked. “No need for it. I got my schoolwork done yesterday at school. It was based on The Tiger.” Nicolas blinked several times getting very excited. “That’s the hero from the past. Saved the world many times before The Black Ninja showed up.” Nicolas went off on a huge speech about The Tiger. Joe rolled his eyes but listened because no one knew more about The Tiger than Nicolas. Nicolas kept rambling on all the way to the school. Marion ran off to her other school friends. The school was shaped like a giant square. It had 3 levels. There were 5 doors to enter the school, and at 4 of those doors were the stairways to get to the higher level. The walls were a white color, with lockers on both sides of the hallways. Classrooms were 30 feet by 30 feet. The doors were a stainless steel grey.Joe entered one of the grey doors and headed for his classroom. The teacher at the front wearing a grey outfit. “Everyone. The prophet shall be here very soon. During this time she will take you all to a private room and tell you what your fate will be.” There was a knock on the door. The teacher walked to the door, opened the door and in walked the prophet. In walked a woman wearing black robes. A meteor medallion hung on a necklace that she wore around her neck. The one thing that struck her as odd was that she had no hair on her head at all. She entered the room and looked around at everyone. She stopped as she stared at Joe. “He’ll be last.” She said so silently no one heard her.It was an hour before Joe got to see the Prophet. When he did she sat in a black simple chair. He sat on the brown stool and stared at her. She grinned like a woman who has just won the lottery. “I’ve been waiting for you for twelve years. Actually. I’ve been waiting for you for far longer than that. I’ve been waiting lifetimes.” Joe shifted nervously in his seat. “Really?” “Oh yes. To have one in front of me. Even if he is only 12 years old. Its positively bone tingling.” “To have one what?” Joe had decided he didn’t like her very much, and she was kind of creeping him out. She laughed long and loud then stared at him. “I can’t tell you. Someone else will.” She frowned then reached into her robes fishing around for something. What she pulled out was something Joe felt an attraction to immediately. “What is that?” He asked breathlessly, desperate to hold it in his hands. It was in fact a golden medallion shaped like a grizzly bear. An animal he had never seen before in his life. She grinned amusedly, then handed it to him. “It’s yours.” “You’re giving it to me?” She shook her head. “Oh no. It was never mine to begin with. It is, shall we say, your birthright?” He stared at her stunned. “What do you mean?” She shook her head again. “I can’t tell you. It isn’t my place to tell you. However I can tell you a few things. Firstly, we will meet again within the next some few years, I’m taking extreme interest in you. Secondly, You and that medallion are linked together in ways that even I do not fully understand. Thirdly. You and that medallion are linked to the fate of this entire planet.” Joe swallowed very hard. “What do you mean?” He asked her slightly fearfully. She leaned forward bringing herself very close to Joe. “You, and you alone can save this world, but if you lose that medallion, you’ll die.” She leaned back and smiled at him as if he had just told a very wonderful joke. “Off you go son. I have others to see.” Joe stumbled backwards and ran from the room holding the medallion. At the end of the school day Joe was sitting on the grass outside the school. He was staring at the medallion. “I’m tied to the fate of the world all because of this thing?” He stared at it wondering just what this thing could possibly do to even help any one person save the world. He knocked on it then dropped it on the ground. It didn’t do anything. He slipped it into his pocket and then he saw them coming straight for him. Widening his eyes he stood up running top speed while turning around at the same time. The result, him tripping and falling face first on the ground. They were on him instantaneously. The first bully proceeded to punch him several times in the back. The second one kicked him several times in the ribs. Joe groaned and cried out in pain. He rolled over to get several hits to his front. The 2 bigger boys backed up and stared at him. The medallion fell out of his pocket. The taller of the two knelt down, picked it up and examined it. He then let out a loud yelp of surprise and pain. He looked at his hand. It was bright red. He held his hand screeching in agony then ran off to find water. The other bully grabbed the medallion to look at it but as soon as he held it he dropped it in surprise. “This damn things hotter than a kitchen stove!” He burst into a run in search of his friend, and perhaps, something cold to press his hand on.Joe stared at the medallion and poked it very quickly. It felt quite cool to him. He lifted it off the ground and held it. Blinking in extreme confusion he slipped it back into his pocket. “What the?” He jumped as he felt a hand on his shoulder. Whirling around he stared at Nicolas. “Nils. How’d it go with the prophet?” Nicolas laughed. “She’s a joke. She said I shouldn’t enter the war. My brilliant mind is better for making weaponry for the war. What did she say about you?” Joe pulled out the medallion. “She said that me and this thing here is tied to the fate of the world.” At that Nicolas burst into laughter, even dropping on to the ground with tears coming out of his eyes. He rolled about with glee, holding his sides while laughing. “Joe. You can’t even lick your lips.” Joe looked down at the ground. “I know. I even get bullied. How could I be tied to the fate of this world?”Nicolas shrugged. “Dunno dude. But come over to my place. We’ll do homework today.” It was right at that exact moment Joe made up his mind. Suddenly he felt like a weight had lifted off his shoulders. He knew what he had to do, and he was willing to do it. “I will. But tomorrow. I’m joining the army. I’m of the right age. The army does except ninja trainees at the age of 12. I’m going to do it. I’m going to follow my destiny.” Nicolas blinked in surprise, then stared at him wide eyed. “No way dude. You’ll be crushed by the Gargoyles.” Joe stared at him. “You know, I’m just glad they haven’t come to our area. Luckily they are at least a quarter of the world over. It would be better if they fought on the other side, with the mountainous regions.” Nicolas dropped to his knees, grabbed Joes front of his outfit and pleaded with him but to no avail. Joe and Nicolas walked back to Nicolas’s house where Marion was waiting. “I’ve been waiting all day for you two. Where have you been?” She asked dragging out each and every single word, tapping her foot impatiently while bashing her eyelashes at Joe. Joe ignored her as he usually did and entered the house. The front door was a bright green and right after the doorway, with enough room for the door to swing open was another door to the basement. Which Nicolas used as the “mens” area. To the right was the living room at the back of the house, and to the left was the kitchen. A hallway to the right led to the bedrooms and the bathroom. Nicolas and Joe ran down the stairs. At the end of the stairway was a backroom to the left, a small pathway to the laundry room, and then the living room. Nicolas flung himself onto his bed and launched into oen of the comic books featuring the heros of old. Joe rolled his eyes, sat on the couch that was against beside the bed but turned so it had its back to the bed. He stared at the medallion without blinking. “It’s something I will do Nils.” Nicolas ignored him. Nicolas believed if he ignored it, it would just go away with time. Joe didn’t say to much, his mind was consumed by thoughts of how he could be tied to the worlds fate. Maybe he’d join the army, and save the world by ending the war. He’d be a great warrior and kill all of the planets enemy, turn them into flying cowards back to their own world. He would come back home a war hero and live peacefully for the rest of his life.Joe smiled at those thoughts then looked at the clock on the wall. “Dude. How long have I been sitting here daydreaming?” Nicolas shrugged. “Dunno.” Man of so many words, that was Nicolas. Joe grabbed his backpack and was out of Nicolas’s house minutes after. When he finally got home his father looked at him. “So son. How’d it go with the prophet?” Joe held up the bear medallion. “She said this is mine. That it’s my birthright.” Phillip concealed whatever shock he might have been feeling. “Joe. You are not to join the army. I forbid it.” Joe blinked. “Whether I go or not. Isn’t it my choice?” Phillip smiled, not a cruel smile but a pained one. “You have to get a signed paper from me. And I refuse to sign any such thing.” Joe stared at his father. “I understand how you feel about it sir. But I’m going to join, with or without your consent.” Phillip stared at his son with a pained expression. Joe turned, ran up the stairs and to his room. Shutting the door he moved to his Steel Slider. Sitting on the top he stared out his window. He sighed softly, and he made an all new decision. Moving to his dresser he pulled out some clothes. Shoving them into a travel bag he owned he then set up a plan. He knew that in order to join the army, he’d have to forge his father’s signature. He was going to wait until his father went to sleep. Joe stared out his window and then he heard a knock on the door. “Enter sir.” His father entered the room. “Joseph. I love you. If you joined, you could die. I don’t want that.” Joe stared at his father. “The prophet said to me. That this medallion and myself are linked to the fate of this world.” Phillip looked at him. “And I.” Joe ignored that comment and went on as if he hadn’t heard anything. “I feel like I have to do this sir. What would happen if I were the reason this war ended? I’d come back a hero, and you’d be the father of the worlds greatest hero. You’d be so proud of me.” Phillip understood how Joe had felt. He had been a part of that thought once long ago. “Joe. I was once a part of the army. I was in fact so good I was a white ninja. But in one battle I lost an arm, and me left leg.” Phillip always said me instead of my. “The ninjas recreated an arm and a leg for me, and I fought in one more battle after that. I quit soon after that last one and then I raised you.” Joe stared at his father, having never heard any of this before. “Is this the part where you tell me that I’m adopted or something?” Phillip chuckled softly. “No son. This isn’t.” Phillip turned and made for the door. “Joe. I beg of you to stay at home. If anything happened to you. I’d never forgive myself for allowing you to go.” He exited the room and Joe listened to his fathers footsteps head to his room. Joe heard his father steel door sliding back, then forth. He grabbed his travelling bag. Checking to make sure he had everything he went through his plan once more.
